The Need

Market growth and greater demand for the brand was stressing the production side supply chain. The existing table top encapsulation machine was too small to meet customer demand necessitating a move to outsourcing in order to keep pace with volumes. However, the combined pressures of the COVID lockdown and overall growing market demand for herbal supplements was pushing lead times from outsourced production to 3-4 months. This was clearly not a sustainable solution and the decision was made by the board to bring all production in house and to acquire a capsule filling machine that was capable of higher volume throughput.

The Solution

As a result of market research, Nature’s Laboratory selected the semi automatic capsule filler S3B-25-C from S3B Machinery. Capable of producing 25,000 capsules per hour, this product is fitted with a Siemens PLC screen, runs Siemens software and uses a Becker German built vacuum pump – these enhancements mean that the core of the machine is powered by more reliable European technology.

The S3B-25-C from S3B Machinery was chosen because the machine type was familiar, great value for money and easy to train on. Return on investment was really quick, the new machine recouping its cost inside 6 months as well as allowing much greater market agility.

S3B Machinery was selected as they are UK based and could provide not only a competitive price but also aftersales support. This has included guidance in terms of best practise and access to technical support and parts.
